Trivia, insights & behind the scenes
Turma da Mônica is Brazil's most beloved comic franchise, created by Mauricio de Sousa in 1959. These 1987 animated shorts represent early attempts to bring the characters to screen before the bigger theatrical films of the 2000s.
Cebolinha's famous speech pattern—swapping 'r' for 'l'—was originally created to make him sound like a child struggling with pronunciation, but became so iconic that voice actors maintain it even when the character grows up in alternate futures.
