Trivia, insights & behind the scenes
This was George Harrison's first filmed performance after the Beatles' breakup, and he insisted on joining after hearing Perkins was involved. The 'Friends' weren't booked—Harrison called Clapton, who called others.
Perkins wrote 'Blue Suede Shoes' in 1955; seeing him reclaim it from Elvis's shadow with rock's new royalty was a deliberate passing-of-the-torch moment that almost didn't happen—Perkins had largely quit performing due to depression and alcoholism before this revival.

There is more rock and roll on this stage than exists on the whole of top 40 radio nowadays.
