Trivia, insights & behind the scenes
This was the first time the Daleks appeared in color — well, in a colorized version later. The original 1964 broadcast was black-and-white, and BBC literally threw away the film reels afterward.
The Daleks as Nazi allegory? Absolutely intentional. Writer Terry Nation survived WWII and coded occupation trauma into every 'EXTERMINATE.' The Robomen = collaborators, the mines = Holocaust imagery.
