The corpse of a shabbily dressed young woman has been discovered in the mud flats of the Thames at low tide. Police assume she's a prostitute, but Dr. Watson suspects something more and goes to his old friend Holmes, now retired and at very loose ends.
Acting
Everett's languid, bitter Holmes—like a hungover Cumberbatch.
Production
Mud, fog, and moral rot—London never looked this suffocating.

Director
Simon Cellan Jones
Trivia, insights & behind the scenes
Everett and Hart both played Watson in other adaptations—Hart in 2002's 'The Hound of the Baskervilles' with Richard Roxburgh's Holmes.
This BBC Granada revival deliberately rejected Ritchie's action-Holmes trend, leaning into Jeremy Brett's melancholy instead.
