Trivia, insights & behind the scenes
Yagyu Jubei is Japan's Zorro — a real historical figure mythologized into pop culture immortality. This film helped cement his 'lone wolf with a secret' persona.
Jūshirō Konoe played Jubei in over a dozen films; by 1963, he could probably do the sword choreography blindfolded. Which, appropriately, he often did.
